I Ching
by Martin Burke

The Marrying Maiden

arousing thunder and joyous lake

do not persevere
nothing advances

thunder over the lake-
understand what is passing
in the light of eternity

                             *

the lame man walks
undertakings are good

the blind man sees
perseverance is good

she is a slave yet marries as a concubine

she draws out the allotted time
a late marriage occurs

gifts and marriages but no misgivings
the moon will bring good fortune

the basket is empty -as is the orchard
nothing advances
