I Ching
by Martin Burke

Treading [Conduct]

creative heaven and joyous lake

the man riding the tiger
is not bitten

heaven and the lake in their rightful place
the superior man knows what is high and low
and so strengthens the people

                             *

simple conduct, progress, no blame

walking a level course
perseverance brings good fortune

the half-blind see
the lame man walks
the tiger bites the man
this is misfortune
this is the way the warrior acts

the tiger
be cautious and circumspect
this ultimately leads to good fortune

rightful conduct
continue with the awareness of danger

look to your conduct
and weigh the good signs
when this is fulfilled
supreme fortune comes
